Thanks to our donors, The Foundation is excited to award 56 scholarships to the SCPS Class of 2023 valued at over $169,000! This is the most ever awarded by The Foundation and included recipients from all 10 high schools. This year, 45% of these scholarships will go to students with financial need who might not otherwise be able to afford college or technical school. By continuing their education and acquiring training after high school these students will go on to high-demand, high wage jobs in our community.
New this year, The Foundation awarded 18 Two-Year Florida Prepaid Jump Start Scholarships through the Foundation’s Impact and Career Awards and Sanford Porchfest. In addition, we added new scholarships such as the Dede Schaffner Arts Scholarship and the James E. Melton Jr. Memorial Scholarship. Awards amounts varied and students will use these funds to continue their education in several areas including nursing, engineering, teaching, electrical trade, and the arts. These scholarships are privately funded by individuals and the business community and are designed for students planning to attend community colleges, 4-year colleges and universities, or vocational-technical programs throughout the country.
The opportunity to receive a scholarship really does make a lasting impact on our students by giving them the opportunity to further their education. One recipient wrote in a thank you letter, “I can’t wait to start my journey and accomplish my goals. There are not enough words to describe how thankful I am!” Thank you to our generous donors who make this such an impactful experience for our seniors! We hope to continue growing this program each year.
We applaud the over 480 SCPS students who submitted their scholarship applications for consideration.
